There are too many items to process with this Rule when a Run would handle over 10,000 total objects (or 50,000 for accounts with Litmos Assign Optimized). Frequency of Rule is changed to None when 10k (or 50k) limit is exceeded

Cause

10K total items can be handled in a Rule run
With Litmos Assign Optimized setting, 50k items can be processed in a rule run (contact Support if you need to discuss this setting for your organization)

For example, If a rule identifies 100 users to be assigned to a team, or unassigned from a team, that has 100 Courses and 1 Learning Path:

Team assignment = 1 item
Learning Path = 1 item
Courses = 100 items
100 users x 102 items = 10,200 total items

Q: What if the team the user is being assigned to or unassigned from is assigned to a learning path with 50 courses, and those same 50 courses are also assigned to the team individually outside of the learning path?
A: If the same courses are assigned to the team individually and via a learning path, they will be counted as two items each because they are separate assignments.

Team assignment = 1 item
Learning Path = 1 item
Courses in learning path = 100 items
Same Courses assigned to the team outside of the learning path = 100 items
100 users x 202 items = 20,200 total items

Q: What if my rule is assigning the user to one team and unassigning from a different team?
A: All courses and learning paths assigned to each team will be counted toward the total number of items.

Assign to Team A
Team = 1
Learning Path = 1
Courses = 50
Total items = 52

Unassign from Team B
Team = 1
Learning Path = 1
Courses = 50
Total Items = 52

Items from Team A and Team B total 104 items x 100 users = 10,400 items

Other considerations:

If a *field in the user profile is updated after the user was identified by a rule they will be identified again on next run time and will be counted in the total items to process even though they are already assigned to the Team/Course/Learning Path/Brand or unassigned from a team in the rule.
Scheduled rules by default only run against users who have not been identified previously or have had a change to one or more of their user profile *fields.

*Field = any user profile field regardless of whether it's included in the Filters of the rule.

Reproducing the Issue

Attempt to Run a Rule which is going to process more than 10,000 (10k) objects, i.e. a Rule which is set to assign 400 users to one team with 30 courses totals 12000 objects (40 users x 30 courses + 400 team assignments = 12,400), which exceeds the 10k limit

Or:

If your organization has a 50k limit, attempt to Run a Rule which is going to process more than 50,000 (50k) objects, which exceeds the 50k limit

Resolution

Consider creating two separate Rules or add/change some filter criteria in order to reduce the number of objects being handled by the Rule
Consider using the Bulk People Import feature to assign users to courses or learning paths
